Antique Ivory Silk Satin Ribbonwork & Crochet Lattice Blouse XS/S
Item Details
Very rare antique tape lace blouse, entirely handmade from ivory silk satin and thread. A real gem! This heirloom piece is truly a labour of love; someone placed each ribbon and crocheted the entire blouse together by hand. A beautiful piece with intricate details; interwoven panels of ribbon form squares and helixes, with tightly coiled spirals threaded between. Three statement spiral buttons on front with press studs underneath. Short sleeves and mandarin collar, with decorative fagoted seams. Soft and cool to touch, has lovely drape and subtle sheen.
The previous owners/caretakers of this garment postulate that it was brought out to Australia from England by ship in the early 1900s. Tape lace blouses from this era are rare and beautiful works of art; pieces crafted from silk satin tape ribbon are even rarer to find. This garment is over a hundred years old – a timeless piece of fashion history in remarkable condition.
Style as a layering piece or on its own, over palazzo pants, jeans, or a slip dress.
